Principal's Welcome
Welcome to the 2024–2025 school year!
As I begin my 7th year as Principal of Olson Elementary School and my 19th year in education, I am once again humbled and grateful. My journey includes 6 years as a teacher, during which I earned National Board Certification, followed by 12 years serving as both an assistant principal and principal. I am excited to continue leveraging this experience to further our shared purpose of cultivating hearts and minds to build a better world.
Over the past 7 years, our community has worked together to provide exceptional student experiences that reflect Olson’s core values and beliefs. Here are some highlights:
- Science Camp for 6th Graders: Supporting our commitment to authentic and rigorous learning experiences.
- Robust Music Program: Emphasizing diversity in perspectives and lived experiences.
- Enhanced Mental Health Support: Increasing professional staff to uphold our belief that safety is crucial to nurturing hearts and minds.
- Growth-Focused Partnerships: Offering a comprehensive after-school program in collaboration with EDMO, along with enrichment options like Na Haumana, theatre, and coding.
- Research-Informed Decision-Making: Providing effective small group and one-on-one tutoring to accelerate student learning.
- Social-Emotional Development: Partnering with the Mindful Life Project to offer regular mindfulness sessions, underscoring our belief in the importance of social-emotional skills for self and community uplift.
