It's Federal Survey Day - October 13

It's Federal Survey Day in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. Every parent in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District will be asked to complete a Federal Survey Card through ParentSquare or paper/pencil via U.S. mail. School districts conduct this survey to identify the number of military and Department of Defense civilian employee children attending our local public schools. Whether you are military connected or not, all survey cards must be completed, signed and returned in order for MPUSD to receive additional funding to serve our students. The district recaptures property tax revenue which fund our local schools. In previous years, MPUSD received an additional $1 million in Department of Defense Education Activity federal funding as a result of collecting this data through the Federal Survey Card.

Free Food for Families

This Just In - MPUSD is a recipient of a U.S. Dept. of Agriculture which allows us to provide fresh produce, dairy and protein to our families. First come, first served during our Grab & Go Meal program hours 12 - 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays at designated sites.

UPDATED: Grab & Go Meals

The federal government has updated its regulations, and families are now able to access Grab & Go Meals without having to present student's name or student ID. Students do not have to be present for families to receive meals. Students must be 18 years and under.

Principal's Message

Hello Olson Community,

I am honored and privileged by the opportunity to join the Olson Elementary School community this coming school year as your Principal. I join Olson having served as an elementary administrator within the Cupertino Unified School District for the last 5 years. Prior to that, I served as an Academic Dean and Teacher for over five years. While teaching, I earned National Board Certification. National Board Certification is the profession’s mark of accomplished teaching and is the most respected professional certification available in education.

I am overjoyed to join the Marina community not only as your principal, but a devout husband and proud father of two boys, ages 5 and 8. My sons will be attending a MPUSD school this Fall and as a family we are very much looking forward to establishing roots in Marina.

I have developed an Entry Plan which will allow me to introduce myself, in addition to, listen and learn from all of you, and our many stakeholders.  This Entry Plan reflects my systematic approach and commitment to seek your input so that I can effectively make informed decisions towards the best interests of our students. This plan will extend over the first semester of school as I meet with, gain insight, and gather input from all stakeholders. My findings will be shared in January and will include shared objectives, as well as an action plan for achieving them that will be developed with our Instructional Leadership Team’s involvement.

As your principal, I am ultimately responsible for the learning, safety, and emotional growth of ALL students and staff. I intend to be an active member of the Olson team frequenting the classroom and being visible around campus serving the needs of the school. Only by working with every part of our community can I successfully fulfill this responsibility. Together, I am confident we will provide the best educational experience possible for all children at Olson Elementary School.

I look forward to continuing to meet all members of our school community in the coming months and beginning the collaborative work that will result in best serving the students, staff, and families of our school.

Drew Coleman
